NUC was established in 1941 originally as “Taihang Industrial School”, which was the first military school of CPC. The School was moved to the present site in 1949, and was promoted to Taiyuan Institute of Machinery in 1958. Later on, approved by the State Council, 4 academic majors were moved in from the Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT) and another 2 from the Shenyang Institute of Technology (today’s Shenyang University of Science and Technology) and, as a result, the scale and entire strength of the School was enriched and improved. In 1963, the School was put under the direct administration of COSTIND, being one of top 8 colleges and universities in national defense industry. The name North China Institute of Technology was adopted in 1993. And in 1999, the School became an institution of higher education built jointly by COSTIND and the People’s Government of Shanxi Province. In 2004 the School was renamed as “North University of China” under the approval of the Ministry of Education. NUC is now a teaching and research oriented university with significant influence and distinctive features.
